Context of the investment for the refurbishment of the Mediaș power station
The 110/20 kV Mediaș power station was put into use in 1967. The degree of wear of the installations was advanced, which threatened the security of the consumers’ energy supply. Therefore, the investment in the modernization of the station came precisely to increase the degree of safety in the operation and distribution of electricity.
Modernization and automation works
Among the works carried out by Adrem within this project are:
- Construction services: foundations, hydrophobic rulers, pillars, access roads, cable channels, rehabilitation of the power tramway, as well as their tanks
- Complete replacement of primary and secondary equipment on the 110 KV side.
- Replacement of 20 kV equipment (medium voltage cells) and installation in a new location, respectively in the envelope, arranging offices, warehouses, etc. in the old space.
- Changing internal service cabinets (AC, DC, battery packs, condensing batteries, rectifiers and group)
- SCADA Implementation
- Implementation of anti-burglary system
- Implementation of fire extinguishing system in the medium voltage and power transfer compartment
Multiple benefits for the customer and consumers
The modernization work of the Mediaș power station brings a series of direct and indirect benefits.
End consumers will benefit from better quality services, which will be seen in the reduction of the number of power outages, but also their duration.
The investment also leads to better protection of the environment. Through this modernization, the PCB capacitor coils were eliminated, which can affect the soil and the water table in case of a battery breakage, the appearance of waste that can affect the environment. With the new technologies implemented in the installed equipment, the risk of pollution is very low.
Other benefits of the works within this project obtained by simplifying the single-wire electrical diagram of the station and the integration of new equipment are the increase in the degree of safety in operation and the decrease of maintenance expenses by up to 25%.

The 110/20 kV Mediaş substation is a system substation of SDEE Trasilvania Sud, which supplies household and commercial consumers to JT and industrial consumers to MV in the area of Mediaş municipality and neighboring localities.
