Corneliu Bodea: “We have an industry based on a cost of energy and labor well below the EU average; but when both costs go to the level of the Union average, there is a huge economic pressure”<\/h2>\n\n

Corneliu Bodea, CEO of Adrem, was quite skeptical about our country’s economic prospects in 2023.<\/p>\n\n

He said: “I expect that next year will be more complicated than this one. One reason is related to energy prices. In my opinion, the current legislation on capping will not be able to be maintained for the entire interval that the government has assumed, that is, until 2025. For me, the term “spring of 2025″ scares me. This is because, obviously, it is a calculation made taking into account the year 2024 which is completely electoral. Somehow to get through that winter as well.” <\/p>\n\n

Corneliu Bodea added: “I think that this value of 1.3 lei\/kwh for everyone will not be able to be maintained and the government will probably return to this price in the spring. Therefore, in my opinion, we should not expect prices to remain so well kept under control.” <\/p>\n\n

The director of Adrem pointed out that, in the price of 1.3 lei\/kwh, electricity is somewhere around 0.6-0.7 lei, maybe 0.8 lei. “The rest are taxes, excise duties and so on. But, until a year or so ago, this value was 0.2-0.3 lei. It is more than a doubling, which has some major economic effects \u2013 the cost doubles,” said Corneliu Bodea, specifying: “Another element is that the cost of labor is doubled. I run a company that has 1,500 employees and I can tell you that the pressure on salaries lately is enormous. This has to do with inflation, it has to do with our integration into the European Union.” <\/p>\n\n

According to him, our country has an industry based on a cost of energy and labor well below the European Union average. “But when both costs go to the level of the European Union average, there is a huge economic pressure. Products will become more expensive, exports may have problems and so on,” said Corneliu Bodea. <\/p>\n\n

Last but not least, he was concerned about the effects of the war started by Russia in Ukraine. “Another element because of which I am not optimistic for next year is related to the conflict in Ukraine. If a resolution is not reached next year, if Russia’s decoupling from the eurozone and coupling with other markets continues, new pressure on prices will appear.
