Energy in general will continue to become an increasingly expensive product and this is because we must start to assume its unsustainable use of the last 50-60 years, said Corneliu Bodea, president of the Romanian Energy Center (CRE) and CEO of Adrem, within the project “New technologies in energy”, carried out by AGERPRES. “At the time of writing these lines, the Romanian energy market is recording records of the spot price of electricity amid increased consumption, due to hot days and an unscheduled disconnection of Unit 2 from Cernavoda (energy with delivery on Friday on the spot market \u2013 editor’s note). Of course, in the operation of an energy system, there are special moments that can generate a short- or medium-term impact on the energy market. In general, the main concern is of a technical nature and the priority of any energy system is to ensure continuity in supply. The modeling of operation in special moments is done with dedication by specialists who work unknowingly and non-stop” Behind the fabric of technique and organization that manages the state of the system, there is the energy market, consumers and their needs, he says. We have found in recent years that here, many times, things do not work with the same precision with which the technical component works. There are already well-known situations of energy suppliers who have adopted positions that are not sufficiently cautious about the risks that may materialize. In the situation of such shocks, there is a risk that those who are not properly commercially protected will receive blows greater than their absorption capacity. “We have been talking so much about resilience in recent years and I think this is good, because we are living in times that, due to the speed of development, come upon us with a surplus of instability and difficulty in forecasting. In such times, increasing resilience is essential and should probably be a mandatory financial-technical reporting chapter for certain areas of activity that can have such a big impact on the industry and people in general. In fact, risk analysis and treatment have already become a reporting chapter, and I consider extending it to what the resilience of systems and organizations means,” Bodea said. In his opinion, energy in general will continue to become an increasingly expensive product, and this is because we have to start assuming its unsustainable use of the last 50-60 years. It is not an easy thing to accept as long as energy is the basis of the construction of so many prices for products essential to life, but it is a reality that must be seriously taken into account. “Also at the time of writing, we are a few days after we have exceeded this year the consumption of resources that can be regenerated and we are living on debt, as the experts have very suggestively calculated. This date when we exceed the Earth’s capacity to sustain our consumption, falls from year to year closer to half of it and we borrow more and more from descendants who will not necessarily agree to pay our debts. The main form of responsibility would be to get involved in the aspects related to the sustainability of our actions and especially to the efficiency of energy consumption. The European Union allocates serious funds in this direction, oriented to both large consumers and households,” the CRE president continued.
